a town wedding

The Wiltshire market town of Devizes was the setting for an autumn wedding filled with music.

The bride and her attendants got ready at The Bear Hotel, ‘a hostelry since 1559’. When the rest of the bridal party arrived they walked to the nearby Town Hall for the ceremony which was charmingly punctuated with music by Grieg, Bartok, Chopin and Debussy played on the grand piano.

After an intimate family wedding breakfast at The Bear, the party returned to the Town Hall, now ready for the evening celebrations which included a Ceilidh band, improvised comedy, singing from the Bride’s choir and more wonderful piano playing by the choirmasters.

The centrepiece of the wedding was the tiered cake made by the bride, decorated with blue tissue roses, with leaves and hearts cut from a Jane Austen novel and topped with tiny home made models of the family. Each tier was a different flavoured sponge – and absolutely delicious!
